The property to buy is the same quality but which area is better out of these two areas which i understand are not the more desirable but i know people who work in central london and have bought in these areas as it's affordable instead of paying rent for life and not owning an asset.

I'd say Northolt is nicer but probably a longer commute to central London.

TizerorFizz · 06/08/2025 15:48

Northolt. Depending on road!

Thelondonone · 06/08/2025 15:50

It depends. Do you need schools? Closeness to tube.

AwkwardPaws27 · 06/08/2025 15:50

I'd go for Romford over Barking or Dagenham, if possible.
I don't know Northolt so can't comment on that.

TerminalMoraine · 06/08/2025 21:22

Northolt definitely

AnnaMagnani · 06/08/2025 21:23

Northolt definitely.

Dagenham is depressing....mostly roads of 50's council estates and houses...nothing much to do...i drove through a few times...its grim...Barking is better, some nice 1930's houses and a little market and shops.

StripedPillowcase · 06/08/2025 22:30

Northolt. I'm localish to B&D.

For what reason is northolt better?

Definitely not Dagenham it’s grim.

TizerorFizz · 08/08/2025 09:28

@paige8039 Dagenham is really Ford motor town. It’s a bit underwhelming as people say. Northolt has a bit more character and good links to central London and M40. Ruislip is pleasant enough too.

thatone · 08/08/2025 09:33

I don't know Barking and Dagenham well but Northolt is not far from Ealing and the Central Line is not too slow into London.

MollyButton · 08/08/2025 10:50

Okay Dagenham is full of 1930s council houses. But Dagenham East was always more privately owned houses. Barking had a lot more “middle class housing”, but both seem a bit depressed now.
