Anyone put a downdraft extractor behind a Range?

Hello

for various boring reasons we can’t place a built in extractor in the chimney breast above our 90cm wide Rangemaster in our new kitchen design.

We actually have a space of about 30cm behind the hob (ie the rear of the chimney breast) where I think we could put a powerful extractor. Westin / Elica with ducting under the floorboards and out side wall. Joists run the correct way and kitchen is first floor which helps.

but the wisdom seems to be these shouldn’t go behind gas range hobs? We aren’t big chef people. It will get light use really.

Anyone done this at all?
