Moving to Buxton

User684 · 16/07/2025 08:16

We are potentially moving to Buxton due to my husbands work. We currently live in the central belt of Scotland with our 2 children (aged 7 and 5). Does anyone have any recent experiences of living in Buxton - good areas for families, views on local primary schools, areas to avoid? Thanks.

Want to buy my house?
Yes we love it but have to move for work. Much much better than Macc or Bakewell. Theatre is great and there 6 or more shows a year for kids plus the festival and routinely gets big comics doing their warm up shoes before anywhere else. Restaurants are great and loads of them. Surrounding food culture is fab. (Eggs olivers farm shop, cheese Hartington an beer wincle) Can walk into the town. Best rds are green lane and corbar rd. Avoid Fairfield. The surrounding village schools are desperate for kids and all do flexible learning. (Wincle kettleshulme combe and sterndale eg) Schools in Buxton less great but ok. All the kids on our side got into lady manners in Bakewell which is exceptional but not sure if would elsewhere in buxton. Youve just missed the carnival which is amazing but it's still pretty busy. Park has gardens, love music in summer, exhibitions and soft play in hols. Surrounding countryside lovely in summer but bleak in winter. Outdoor lifestyle amazing - swimming in rivers after school, chips on the tops etc.

Thank you for such a detailed reply. It’s much appreciated. Good luck with the sale of your house, we are not quite at the buying stage yet.
