Hi all we’ve bought a house with lovely wood floors but we’ve never had wood floors before . They look like they need a light sand but what do we do next . We want to keep them light in colour . Any advise ?

Get advice on what type of wood, solid or engineered, what coating / varnish is on it. There are a lot of variables, but wood floors can be very tough with the right products protecting them.

Go onto a DIY forum example Scewfix. You should be able to get some tips on Wooden floors. We sweep everyday with a soft broom.Followed by a light hoover.Clean spill's with kitchen roll paper.I usually give the floor a clean with hot water mixed with a mild detergent with a soft cloth,Dry, then finished off with Method Almond wood floor cleaner.Lovely to walk on & admire!

Daily care: We use a microfibre mop and Method almond wood floor cleaner, every week or so. Mop up spills with a tea towel.

Sanding - get a professional to do it, I have sanded solid floors by myself and it is backbreaking. Should only need doing once a decade or so!

You need to work out if it’s oiled or varnished. Method is lovely but no good for an unsealed floor it’s only for varnished. Mine is oiled so I use a bona or woca cleaner for this type of wood.
