Moving to St.Albans empty nest early 50s

I've read alot about St Alban's being very good for schools etc but I was wondering if anyone could help me understand what it is like to live in St Alban's for those who are in their early 50s, kids have left home and are looking to increase their social circle and activities. Any information is gratefully received, thank you.

Prime commuter country so very popular and housing very expensive (comparatively), plenty of restaurants and pubs and there is a theatre. Haven't lived there for a long time now it used to be pretty busy in the evenings at weekends. Reasonable high street for shopping.
