Hi has anyone had a mezzanine bedroom built? So going up a bit into the roof space with a velux window?
looking at ways to maximise space for my 11 year olds box room!

If you can go into the loft wouldn't a loft extension make more sense?

Not sure if this is what you mean, but where I live there is a street where the second loft bedroom can only be done this way due to the floor levels - the room is in two bits, one lower bit with enough space for a single bed, and a higher bit up a few steps, with space for a desk.

Works well for an older child who is ok with steps - but possibly has a limited life as a teen would bash their head? Although they’d still value the space I expect as a den area.

Will see if I can find some sales details with this

Thank you this does sound like it could work for us. Our roof space is too low for a full loft conversion. We would need planning permission to raise the roof and could be very costly!

We are looking at doing this. Technically the area is a storage platform as doesn’t have proper stairs. As long as you dont have W trusses in your roof this might be quite straightforward but you have to insulate the new ceiling walls etc. Interested to see if someone else comes along who has already done it.
