Shower head type

I'm about to move into a house with a rainfall shower head; looks good but strikes me as impractical in some ways. Is it possible to have a hand held, adjustable head installed as well, or do I need to start from scratch? I haven't ever had anything other than adjustable. New area, so don't have a plumber yet, trying to keep things as simple as possible.

You can add a handheld one in but depending on how the shower is installed it could end up needing retiling too. Is the shower valve surface mounted?

It is possible to install an adapter. But as it was said above, depending on how the shower was installed and which valve it uses. Easier if installed wall mounted rather than ceiling.
A “proper” job would involve retiling the wet area.

Thank you; I don't know yet, haven't been for the measuring etc viewing.

We are moving to a house with a fairly recently refurbished bathroom. The shower has just a rainfall and no extractor fan in the bathroom. Currently we have 2 showers both with rainfall and hand held attachment.

Our builder has already had a look (was there doing something following the survey) and said at first the panels might need to be removed (panels not tiles) but since said he has thought of a way to cut away some panelling and add a contrasting piece.
You really need a hand held for hair and rinsing and of course cleaning the cubicle.

Interested in any other solutions so thanks OP.
