Only Combi Oven+Microwave in the kitchen. Am I mad?

Hi, I'm really keen to hear the experience of those who only has a small combi oven microwave.

I'm in the process of re do my kitchen and it is really small. I could either fit a full oven but have no microwave or have a small combi in the tall cabinet as we will install the dishwasher below the oven.

I use my oven a lot but mostly to heat up pizza, roast some vegetables and bake meringues. I rarely do any big roasts as my family is not into them. The only downside is that it my not fit my dutch oven and I love to bake bread... but I could use a smaller dutch oven...
The microwave is used all the time in my house, so really cannot be without it.

I'm specifically looking into the Neff N90 Combi oven.

Please ignore future buyers. This is hopefully my "forever" home. I'm making way more controversial design options!

Thanks!

The only difficulty I have found is that when you are doing something in the microwave to go with the meal being cooked in the oven, you can’t. I really only use it for a microwave and use the big oven as an oven. It also doesn’t turn so the food doesn’t get evenly heated as a microwave

Mine is an AEG one. Also you have to keep taking the racks ina nd out

Could you add an air fryer to give you another cooking option?

As above it’s an issue if you want to microwave parts of a meal and oven cook others, or microwave directly after cooking something.

We've got a Panasonic combi microwave oven (we do have a big oven as well but don't use it a lot). Generally good but as pp have said it's a pain if you want to microwave as well as oven for the same meal.

The one thing I've found it crap for is pizza because there's no oven shelf, the tray has to sit on topr of the turntable which makes the pizza base go soggy. But other models might be better designed?

Why? Despite popular misconception, metal is fine in microwave (there are only specific cases why are an issue, and racks for a combi oven are not one of them).

Thanks @ImFineItsAllFine! The one from Neff has shelves like an oven and not a turntable! https://www.neff-home.com/uk/en/product/ovens-compact-ovens/ovens/single-microwave-oven/C24MS71G0B

I do have an air fryer, but it's super bulky (Ninja) and I can't be bothered to get it out of the cabinet (countertop space is really limited). But yes, it's an option. Thanks!

You can get ovens with microwaves built in. Is that an option?

Icanttakethisanymore · 09/07/2025 12:43

We have one of these (a built in one) as well as a larger oven (similar to yours by the look of it but ours is a Panasonic). The two of them together gives great flexibility but the combi on it's own would be quite limited imo. It's small for your only oven and obviously not being able to microwave at the same time would sometimes be quite awkward. I guess it depends what type of cooking you do though; I have 2 kids and often cook for the GPs as well so often 6 people. If you only typically cook for 1 or two people it might be ok. Could you have a microwave on a shelf above the worktop?
