I need some structural advice!

A relative has hit our house with their car, while reversing away they somehow stalled and panicked so the car rolled into the house. Obviously low speed, but the car travelled about 6 feet down a gentle slope before making a very big bang.

The impact was car v the window ledge of the bay window which juts out and just sliced into the car.

The window and window ledge and all surrounding brickwork look totally fine. Immediately under the window there is a layer of cement (?) and that has some cracks in it but tbh they could have been there for years, you would never know.

I am reluctant to get my house insurers involved unnecessarily.

I was hoping someone could advise if we are mad to just leave it be, or should we get it checked over by a builder or structural engineer just in case?

TIA

Carefully check both internally and externally the window, the cill and the ledge. Open and close any windows. Check it hasn’t been knocked inwards. Any brick damage should be evident by cracks or indentation when you look along the length of the bay.

Thank you for the suggestion.

There is no sign of anything on the inside and the windows all open and close smoothly. Window looks fine except scratches where the car hit.

If that keeps you awake at night, you can ask a structural engineer to do a survey. It shouldn't be too expensive and the relative should be (hopefully) more than willing to pay for it.
