thing is we are jsut not at all adventurous and every thing is cream or pale blue so i am gonna leave it.push the boat out so to speak......
got any tricks to damp it down a bit?

Yes, don't damp it down! Be brave! I'm sure once you've got all your accessories in there, it would look nearly as bright!
