Air con - cooling a house? (UK)

We are lucky our house is new and well insulation and faces East - West. We have a through flow of all from front to back. Fans currently going in each room. It’s manageable.

I have an autoimmune disease and struggle to regulate my temperature so air conditioning is a real interest.

Longer terms we have options portable air conditioning unit or installing wall air con in bedrooms and lounge as we have outside walls.

Has anyone put air conditioning in ?

was it worth the cost?

My brother has a couple of individual fitted ac units in different rooms of his house that are hot and it’s makes a world of difference. He can even use his conservatory in the middle of the summer. I have a portable one for the lounge at home and it’s ok but not brilliant, it’s noisy and requires a hose out of the window. If you have the option I would definitely get a proper one fitted into the rooms you need.

We have wall fitted units in our upstairs rooms. I also struggle to regulate my body temperature and they are an absolute life saver. We also use them for heating in winter, as much more efficient than our central heating.

DH doesn’t regulate temperature well, so we’ve a wall mounted unit in the main bedroom. He can cool it down for sleeping in summer and bump up the temperature just of that room in cold weather rather than heating the whole house to a higher temperature than necessary.
If it’s particularly hot, we leave the door open, and put a fan in the doorway which circulates some of the cold air round the house - it’s next to the stairwell and cold air falls so it works quite well.

We don’t need to use it for cooling many days a year but it makes a big difference.

I have a “portable” one in the living room (weighs a ton, so not particularly portable!) which is vented up the chimney, as I have an open fire. It’s one that does heat as well as cold, so, in the winter, it gets shoved into the conservatory to warm it up a bit. It’s been an absolute godsend this past month. When I can afford it, I’d love split units fitting all over the house.

It's absolutely lush. No regrets

We’ve got air con in our bedroom. Though we only use it a few times a year, it’s a life saver in this weather.

Can you tell me which model of the ac unit he has and the contact number of the sellers/installer please? I am confused which one to buy for a ground floor bedroom. My daughter gets migraines in summer.

Can anyone help please? I need to get an air conditioner installed in one ground floor bedroom. My daughter has been getting migraines since the heat wave started. I need to get it attached to the wall. Can anyone recommend a good one please? Would be useful if you have the contact information or/and the model please.

@Dabi
There is another thread currently that has an air con recommendation I think

Zero regrets. We have it in our two bedrooms and living room. It's used far more than we anticipated, especially in childs bedroom and we use it a great deal for heating in the winter too.

Sorry I’m not sure which one and he’s had them quite some years now so I’m guessing there are more modern environmentally friendly ones available now.
