Attaching a wall lamp when surface isn’t flat

How could I attach a base of a wall lamp to something like on the photo? The red circle shows the size of the base (16 cm). It can’t be flush obviously. Shall I use small blocks of wood in the gaps between the base and the wall? I’d ask the electrician to drill around the ribbon, only to a flat surface. Can it work? I’d really like a lamp there, especially the one I chose.

I think your plan of 3 small wooden blocks will work well.

Thank you @Geneticsbunny, that’s reassuring!
