Boiler Newbie!

Hi everyone. We need to replace the boiler in our 1930s former council flat in central London and we have absolutely no idea where to start.

Is anyone able to offer a checklist or some advice or recommend a reputable company? I don’t want to end up on Judge Rinder in five years time.

How old is the current boiler

FlatErica · 26/06/2025 20:15

Easily 30 years old.

I had a very good experience with Boxt in London. Good price and no issues with the installation at the time or after.

Can highly recommend Boxt too. Best price by a mile and a very efficient process.

Thanks!

So probably not a combi boiler or a condensing one then (assuming it is not electric).

So that may be your biggest issue. Deciding whether or not to have a combi. The second issue will be how to get rid of the condensate. Is it on an outside wall ?

I would get boxt and bg in to quote. Because they will identify all the issues. Then you can decide on how complex the installation is and whether or not you can go for a cheaper independent.

Can I third boxt? They have just removed my very old water tank system & fitted a combi, really pleased with it. You get a quote online. I’m on the boxt life plan which is monthly payments for 10 years 😱 but includes annual service, all the work, boiler repairs etc

Thank you very much for all this advice, I really appreciate it. We will definitely be going with Boxt. The current boiler is in a cupboard and not on an outside wall. I guess that means we have to get a combi one.

I have a referral code for £100 off boxt if you’d like it? Not sure if I’m allowed to pop it on the thread.

FlatErica · 29/06/2025 08:43

Thanks, that would be awesome!

Boxt absolutely!

I also have a referral code if anyone ever wants to DM me. Boxt do interest free which I needed, cos frankly didn't have 2.5k or whatever sitting around when my boiler went kaput.

FlatErica · 29/06/2025 11:29

This is all very encouraging; I’m so glad I asked. Thanks for all the feedback :-)
