Moving away/relocating

We've lived in our current home since 2014. On paper it's more than adequate but there are things we would like to have.

DD is due to start secondary school in 2 years and our current mortgage deal is up next summer.

Affordability wise we couldn't afford to stay in our area for what we want, plus the secondary schools round here are really not great. We have grammar schools but DD is not grammar school material.

DH would like to move away. We live in a coastal town within easy reach of London. Which brings it quite a few issues and DH sees things getting worse and I can't say I blame him.

He wants to move to the outskirts of Norwich . It's not a million miles away but would still be far to see family and friends regularly. Norwich has good schools and we could afford more house for our money.

So I guess my question is, if you have relocated, what pushed you to actually do it? And do you have any regrets?

I said to DH that right now the push to move just isn't there for me right now. I'd have to change jobs, DD would have to move schools where she struggles sociallly already. She's on the waiting list for an adhd assessment and sees a therapist once a week who she loves!

We have good friends and family locally. We would be starting over if we moved. DH works from home but if ever got laid off, it's a long commute to London from Norwich and expensive!

If we did it and it worked out, we could have a lovely lifestyle..... but what if it doesn't???
How did you know to move was the right thing??

We didn’t move until we both knew it was the right choice

we had spent a decade mulling the idea but never agreeing on the where

then when he suggested this place it was an instant “oh yes”

it doesn’t sound like you are there yet
