Are local authorities in London buying back properties?

I've heard of this happening but can find no info on it at all! I live in SE London in a terraced house that's been converted into two flats. Although the houses were privately built at the end of the 19th century, they were bought by Southwark council after WW2. The flat below me is owned by the council, but mine was sold off to a tenant under right to buy about 10 years ago. Been reading loads about shortages of council housing around here AND the council did write to me recently to ask if I'd be prepared to rent my flat to them - so they must be on the look out! Any ideas? Sorry for the rambling note - I am seriously sleep deprived!
