Applying for our max with Nationwide

We’ve just submitted an application, £1.5K off the limit Nationwide set in our Mortgage in Principle. We are using a broker. We were approved for a mortgage with Santander two months ago, that sale fell through and they wouldn’t lend as much as Nationwide, hence the new application. Anyone had their borrowing significantly dropped after full application? So nervous as we just LOVE the house. But it’s stretching us to our absolute limit!

I’m a broker - in short, no.

you’re broker will have stress tested against all your income and outgoings. As long as that is what is on paper, ie payslips etc, you should have no issues.

we had thr opposite. we submitted an application higher than our DIP and got offered it. They also said we didn't have to redeem our existing mortgage which would have been a mind-blowing amount of debt. so i think you'll be fine submitting an application under your limit.

Thank you. I’m hoping it happens fairly quickly as the waiting is painful!

Oh wow. Was this recently? With Nationwide? Hopefully it’s plain sailing for us!

I can see a hard search on our credit report ( Experian ) so keeping my fingers crossed things push through as expected!

Good luck!

This time last week, I'd just heard my second mortgage application was accepted.

My first mortgage application was rejected for no clear reason. I was bracing myself to increase the deposit and feeling awful, but my broker persuaded me to try again with another lender on the same terms. It was successful. I hope yours is too!
