I live in a semi detached house and walls are like paper I can hear neighbours microwave

Has anyone had soundproofing installed does it work?

I’m in the process of doing this. So far, next door flat is empty (been empty since I moved here) so I don’t really know how noise it will be. But I can hear every step from upstairs neighbours (and they are not necessarily loud or noisy). Pondering about insulation sheets before the plasterboard or cork board for ceiling. I will also invest in sound absorption panels for the hallway as it’s where most of the noise travels through.
I have yet to discuss with the builder which solution is cheaper. The flat already has fibre insulation in most rooms but that’s not enough.
