Moving Quote 🏡

Hi all, we’ve been quoted £450 to move from a mid terrace to a 3 bed semi, north west England and the new house is about 20 minutes away - is this reasonable?

Seems cheap to me. Are you packing?

Darragon · 02/06/2025 15:29

Wow that's very cheap! I'm assuming that doesn't include packing? We moved last year and it cost £2499, that was the cheapest quote (inc. £500 packing service) for a very full 2 bed house with a garage. Another place did start out quoting us £725 inc. packing but then they upped the price to almost £3k after we said we wanted to proceed with the quote so watch out for any of that!

HellsBellsTrudy · 02/06/2025 16:02

We’re packing everything yep! I wondered if it was too good to be true, but it’s hard to turn it down!

Will watch out for that @Darragon !

I paid that to move out of a 1 bedroom flat to another, 5 minutes away, in 2019 in the South East!

MissSookieStackhouse · 02/06/2025 16:55

That sounds insanely cheap! Is it a legitimate moving company or a man with a van? I paid more than that in 2018. (That was in the East of England. ) I’m wondering if it’s too cheap? Any doubts over the company?

HellsBellsTrudy · 02/06/2025 17:00

He was recommended to us, but I do think he’s more of a man with a van. Is this best avoided??

Family member paid over £700 to move the contents of a 1 bedroom flat plus picking up a few other bits from a house. 3 years ago. They packed clothing and all other items themselves. They were moving 30 miles though. South East.

Favouritefruits · 02/06/2025 17:14

Have you seen the removal vehicle? I had a cheap quote when I last moved, I didn’t see their truck prior to it arriving and they turned up in a ‘black Matt hand painted’ transit van that looked about 30years old. The men were useless too, one broke his finger and the other was tiny he couldn’t life anything! It took them umpteen trips too! Never again will I go cheap

m00rfarm · 02/06/2025 17:15

I paid 450 just to collect the contents of a single garage, drive 45 minutes, and then unload them. Nothing valuable, no special care needed apart from one item. So your quote is ridiculously low. I would check they have insurance etc!

I moved an hour away. 250 quid. 3 men. Took 4 hours in total. I found him on FB marketplace. He had some great reviews. They went above and beyond for me

Is he insured for loss or damage to your property?

fetchacloth · 03/06/2025 19:34

Incredibly cheap - I paid a similar amount back in 1998 to move house.😮

GiveDogBone · 03/06/2025 20:43

Too good to be true, do they have insurance? Do you anyone who’s used them?

HellsBellsTrudy · 03/06/2025 20:51

Their business page says they’re insured and they have good reviews, we were recommended them by someone who used them recently and couldn’t speak highly enough!

In that case go for it!

VERY cheap. We paid that 13 years ago. Going from a 4 bed, 3 storey house (LOADS OF STUFF/2 teenagers at the time!) to a smaller 3 bed cottage.

depends on the quality of your furniture etc. You will need to wrap everything carefully

Bluevelvetsofa · 03/06/2025 21:03

Bear in mind that, if you pack yourselves, any breakages are down to you.

I’d definitely check what insurance they have and how much their liability is.

Profpudding · 03/06/2025 21:26

That’s absolutely amazing bite their hand off

Profpudding · 03/06/2025 21:27

Actually Insurance is a very good point. We went with a man with a van type thing cost nearly £800 but they broke my £2000 fridge by lying it down on the element side 🤦‍♀️

Trytosmilefor2025 · 03/06/2025 23:00

I moved 3 years ago and paid almost 2k without packing. Also a 15 min drive away! But that's the southeast

JungAtHeart · 04/06/2025 00:35

I have never employed a moving company and not been stung 🙁 The always give a quote for the place - last time two bedroom flat - then once they have all my belongings state that the cubic footage was way over what was quoted for. They then add in an additional fee and if it’s not paid, charge a daily storage rate on top of it until it’s paid … effectively holding all my belongings hostage. Sigh … be careful

HellsBellsTrudy · 22/07/2025 07:05

I just wanted to update this to say we used this mover and he was great!he had help, moved us quickly, even fitted our washer and was a lovely guy.

Do I think he was a little dodgey maybe? Oh absolutely! But I would use again, and save £££!

You got a bargain of a century there. The removal mafia charges 2k + for this kind of move in London
