Wendy houses recommendation

Been trying to find a decent wooden Wendy house measuring 5ft x5ft for DD1 & DD2, to put in the garden. Looked at Mercia, Shire, TP toys, BillOh, Rebo…but the majority of the reviews mention poor build quality and/or missing parts. Can anyone recommend a brand of Wendy house that is made from quality materials ? Would be willing to spend up to £500 for the right one. Thanks 😊

I love that a question about a Wendy house is in the Property section 😁

We bought this Wendy house about 12 years ago. It's Mercia. I looked at the reviews just now and they are pretty bad! But thought I'd share my opinion that we were very happy with it. I don't remember a problem putting it up. We took it to pieces about 3 years ago as our kids outgrew it and gave it to friends who reassembled it with no stress and it's still going strong.

Have you tried local shed companies? They often do playhouses too

Thanks so much PCS, appreciate you sharing your experience of the Mercia Wendy house. Great to hear that you were happy with it and that it’s still going strong. I think I’ll go for it, knowing that I may need to make some adjustments along way.

ps I chuckled at posting this under the property section, glad you found my post! :)

Thanks jackstini, I think I’m going to go with Wickes based in PCS’ positive experience, but thanks for your post

I think a lot of the ones under £500 will be much of a muchness- it’ll be a step up to the higher quality ones. We got one of the latter from a shed company - it was installed by them and really solid etc. we made it nice with cushions and fairy lights. The kids never use it and it’s a glorified shed now. I’d go cheaper end now as I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t get used a lot.

Thanks bunnycat, the wickes one we’ve gone for is £583. I guess only time will tell how much it gets used! 😜DD1 & DD2 loved the one they used on holiday recently, which had a toy kitchen/table & chairs inside so here’s hoping…

My 2 year old grandaughter has a wooden Wendy House that was already in the garden when they bought the house. If has a toy kitchen in it and she absolutely loves it and plays in it a lot along with a friend’s 2 year old boy and my 2 year old grandson. The friend’s boy always wants to come over and play in it.

Great to hear your grandchildren and friend’s son enjoy their Wendy house 🙌, will definitely get a toy kitchen to put inside, sounds like a winner 😊

On the note of Bunnycat’s wendy house getting little use, and depending on ages of DC then if you have a little extra cash to spend it may be worth sizing up: our neighbour has the former play house left by the previous owners, which can easily seat adults, which she turned into a little book-nook for herself! I’m rather jealous, we have DH’s home office out in our garden so no space, but I’ve had many a happy evening out with my neighbour in hers with a glass of wine nestled amongst cushions and away from the kerfuffle of the main house.
