What's wrong with this ceiling?

Visiting my aunt who is quite old and not been well.for.a.while so not much house maintenance going on.

What is going on with this bedroom ceiling? Who should I get in to look at it? Have touched it and it's not wet.

(I think the black marks are from years of burning candles).

What's wrong with this ceiling?

No expert but to me it just looks like the effects of age. Flaking paint and staining.
Redecorating job.
I'd leave it .

Great! Thanks for replying - I was hoping it was that but didn't want to just ignore.

That looks like woodchip to me so it's likely to have become brittle and cracked with age. Agree with pp, it's a decorators job.

Possibly movement in the ceiling above , water or expansion of hot pipe.

It looks similar to the cracks in our ceilings. Is the house Victorian/edwardian? It’s probably the original lathe and plaster cracking. It will need boarding and plastering to fix assuming not at all damp. Ours at 120 years old are all starting to do this

It's Edwardian so sounds like it's age. Thanks for the help.
