Hello- was thinking of putting panelling up on the lower part of the wall (not the wall with the window) do you think it could make the room seem smaller ?

As it’s a dormer it’s hard knowing how to decorate it to ensure it remains as spacious as possible..

hope that makes sense 😁 open to suggestions ..

I don’t think half panelling would make the room seem smaller. What sort of style of panelling were you thinking of?

What is the purpose of the room? Do you have existing furniture and decorative items which will go innthe room?

I’d spend the money on thick plush carpeting. Or a large plush area rug.

Personally I love attic spaces that are simple, so panelling would be a no from me. Unless you're going for a 'ski challet' feel, then it could work. I think there are already enough lines for your eye without adding more.
A quick search of 'attic decor' on Instagram and hardly any pop up that are panelled. A few where they're horizontal and go right over the ceiling, which looks nice.
If you love it though, go for it, it's your home.

Would you be able to reclaim any space under the eaves as storage? That could work well with panelling. Or do you want the panelling to become a feature behind a bed?

Either way here are some ideas, all taken from Houzz

If you do decide to go for panelling, I’d definitely recommend checking out Painting the Past. They have a good range of colours specifically formulated for wood. I've used them myself and the results were stunning!

Thank you everyone - tbh I’m not a massive fan of panelling I just thought it might make something of the room , should have also said that the room will change to how the picture is, It will be getting fresh lick of paint on walls, new carpet etc and a touch of colour . I’ve seen some pics where they have coloured the whole room and I feel It makes it look very dark.

if I was to get panelling I would paint it a neutral colour to give it a warm tone.

thanks for all the ideas :)
