Infuriating Gas Boiler Company ( Boxt )

We were looking forward to a new boiler from Boxt at a competitive price from their website when I got this email --
"I have spoken with my heat pump and boiler teams this morning.
At this time, we would be unable to do an installation for you without confirmed nearby parking facilities as most engineers will not leave their vans somewhere they can not see it or easily access it from the property".

My house has a single yellow line outside and they want to be able to see the van. How daft is that?

To be fair they do say "or easily access it from the property"

Have you got a drive, can you move your car if you have one and let the engineers park on that?

Kalabata · 26/05/2025 12:23

They either want to see the van or be parked less than 30 metres away. So what about all the thousands of flats and houses in city centres where that is not available?

One of the first questions we seem to be asked if we want a quote for something is what thr parking situation is. I assume that trades people have enough work to be able to pick their jobs.

They simply don't take on that work. They must have incurred significant financial issues for them to implement this policy.

Are you able to satisfy their requirements?

Its too late now, we have been rejected by Boxt but have been told by Warmzilla that they don't have any parking restrictions. One other thing I used to work for an exclusive hotel and all trades had to use a separate car park 100m from the building and not the guest's one.

Why can’t you answer their question? It’s not an unreasonable one

One of the things I know about Boxt is that they can offer a lower price because they don’t come out to quote in person, so don’t have expensive sales people to pay. They take all the info they need online - which is why they’ve asked you that question. It will be a right PITA for the poor gas engineer to haul a new boiler, all his tools and equipment from his van 100m + away. Other companies will turn down the job if they saw that

CatsorDogsrule · 26/05/2025 12:36

A hotel contract is a very different kettle of fish from a single domestic boiler installation.

I hope your Warmzilla installation goes without a hitch.

Obviously any trader will accept a job that has easy parking over one that might cause them hassle.

A pity you can't get BOXT - I used them after recommendations on MN and they were great and much cheaper than other quotes. I was able to provide parking.
