Wood floor, hall and stair nosing dilemma

Found some lovely kahrs oak engineered floor and its a nice long plank with 5g joints. Its going in a living room and hallway. There are steps in the hall, this is where the problem comes. The nosings for the steps are designed to fit the long side of the board so the planks would have to go across rather than along the long hall. I think that running along the hall would look miles better. Is there any way round fitting the nosings to the long side? Or do I just have to deal with my first world visual problems?

Not quite sure what you mean, but I used a metal transition strip to cover off where the wood met the steps.

Google anti slip bullnose stair nosings. I used the Genesis ones.
