...guess the completion/move date?

  • sold early last month
  • 2 person chain
-.mortgage applications all approved
  • contract packs have been issued (buyers one only this week due to a clerical error 🤪)
  • surveys on both houses carried out within the last 10 days (both had to be rescheduled twice due to staff availability). Haven't had any feedback from buyers following their survey (yet?).
  • searches on the onward property all returned, have posted 2 enquiries on them which we've been advised are only small things but who knows.
  • searches on our property haven't started yet (due to the same error mentioned above) so no enquiries there yet.

Can't think of what else you might need to know. Noone has stated any firm restrictions on when they can/want to move.

Just a bit of fun during the waiting game! I can post the closest answer when it's all signed/sealed/delivered (touch wood!)

I'm going for 30 may. Good luck.

GreatTheCat · 28/04/2025 16:34

Mid Sept

lifemakeover · 28/04/2025 16:37

I'm going to say absolute best case mid-June, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's later in the summer. I haven't moved in 10 years though so could be talking rubbish!

Gunz · 28/04/2025 18:41

Searches could be another 4 weeks - so guessing beginning of July as the Conveyancer for your buyer will dredge up some banal question off the back of them.

notanarchaeologist · 29/04/2025 07:37

Okay the guesses are rolling! I will update when we know! 😁

Our searches have taken about 4 weeks so yes was assuming at least mid-late June, then being me I tacked a month on to manage my own expectations. So am guessing the week of 7th July

How are you getting on, op? I take it my guess for end of may was way too ambitious!

feelingbleh · 27/05/2025 16:14

I will guess July 2032

Ah yeah sadly not!! Our buyers had some set backs, but things are moving now. Solicitor has said it'll be 'sooner rather than later' but I've no clue if that's June soon or August soon!

Fuck sake. I hope you haven’t packed the Christmas decs away

Gunz · 27/05/2025 20:16

@notanarchaeologist It so drags on doesn't it! I am 14 weeks in, without any indication of an exchange date. I am going on holiday next week for a couple of weeks - big old road trip around Scotland and the Islands - absolutely can guarantee something will kick off. I have emailed conveyancer and told them to send me anything which needs to be signed by the end of the week. I live in hope that someone is going to shift their butt. Just need some dates!

notanarchaeologist · 28/05/2025 19:16

@Gunz that would be the way of things!! Hopefully you being unavailable will be enough to kick start something. Rely on the law of sod. We went abroad for a week, told everyone we were going to be out of range about a month in advance, warned them we wouldn't be contactable, got a tonne of emails! Maybe that's how we should move everything on, all go on holiday 😂

The thought of it dragging onto Xmas.... I couldn't believe how many sets of decorations were in the loft (lived here over 30 years). Just got rid of most of it. New house - new tree was my attitude.

5 September

TheSilentSister · 29/05/2025 00:12

I feel your pain OP. This was me last year. Went away for a few days in August, and that's when it all kicked off. Bloody typical. I was fielding phone calls, answering emails, so much for the break! And then we didn't actually move until mid Dec. We exchanged on a Thurs and moved the next day. It was so up in the air, last minute stuff. ((((Shudders)))) Never moving again, lol.

notanarchaeologist · 16/06/2025 09:15

So things are moving, we've signed the contracts but not agreed a date as of yet. Feel like we're nearly there though!

Goodness, the constant refrain of “Do you know when you’re moving yet?” is starting to wear thin! I do appreciate that it’s all kindly meant and people are genuinely interested, but it’s beginning to make me feel a touch tetchy. A little variety in phrasing would be refreshing. Something like “How’s the waiting game?”, “What’s the latest with the solicitors?”, or even “Have you started packing yet?” would feel far less repetitive than being asked daily if we’ve got a date. I fear my replies are becoming increasingly terse… It’s reminiscent of being repeatedly asked if the baby’s arrived from 35 weeks onwards!

Can't quite believe I've last updated a month ago and there has been quite genuinely zero progress....
