Wow that sounds expensive. I always suggest anyvan - you put in the post code of where you are and where you are moving to and what you need moving and they give you a quote which has always been half what most removal companies have quoted.

Ours ranged from £1200 to £3500 (!) but the more expensive ones charged less for packing. We ended up paying £1500 or so including packing. Average to small 3 bed but with a tardis of a garage and a loft.

LittleGreenDragons · 14/04/2025 20:05

I was quoted 3.5k by one firm 😬 Couple of others were 2K ish for moving from one side of town to other but the chain got broken in the end (last year) so still have this fun part to do. East Mids.

We were quoted £1050 to £1450 in Sussex recently, didn’t include the packing service or boxes though.

Moving how far? Round the corner or other side of the country?

We got several quotes for moving from a 3 bed to a 4 bed, only a mile down the road.
They were all in the £1100-£1200 range.

Mothersruin123 · 14/04/2025 20:30

£1500 including packing but that was 4 years ago. Home Counties.

We are moving round the corner and are quite organised so was really shocked but we can’t lift heavy stuff ourselves so need help

Does your quote include packing? If not it sounds expensive. Maybe get some more quotes, or perhaps you live in an expensive part of the country.

We paid £350 for two fellas and 4 trips with a Luton van. We packed everything, they shifted it about 2 miles. Was a man with a van service but they were insured.

RedPanda3 · 14/04/2025 23:40

North west £700 one van 2 trips 3 guys moving 7 miles

edit to say this was Dec 2024

Stressedoutforever · 15/04/2025 08:54

Last August 1.5k for a 3 bed to a 3 bed about 2 miles
No packing included

peppermintcrumble · 15/04/2025 10:41

We paid £2,345 (in the SE) but that included a full packing service and also them storing everything overnight, as we wanted to empty the house the day before to give us time to clean the carpets rather than frantically doing it on completion day. This also included insurance against extra charges if completion was delayed.

We got some cheaper quotes but liked this company and decided to go with gut instinct. No regrets - they were lovely, did an amazing job and were very kind to our stressed-out cat.

BumbleBeegu · 15/04/2025 10:53

I’ve just done this! I paid £1200 but this included a full packing service, dismantling and rebuilding two huge wardrobes and three double beds.

Admittedly I wasn’t moving very far (12 miles). The packing team came the day before to pack and dismantle.

It was a very professional service and my move went seamlessly…I’ve had really shit experiences before so I was stressing to be honest!

I had quotes from as little as £999 ‘all in’ (a ‘man and his van’ type outfit) to over 4K (nationally recognised firm). I went with this company because they were local, had great reviews and friends had also recommended.

CozyCoupe · 15/04/2025 10:58

I actually don't think that sounds too bad - we paid about £1200 in 2020 and I assume costs would have gone up substantially since then. It will depend on location and how much stuff you have surely.

This was £300 for us. 1 trip easiest move I've ever done. Packed ourselves. Labeled each box with what room it was to go in and put signs on each door in the new house. All smooth sailing.

TheTwenties · 15/04/2025 14:44

With a local independent removal firm we have used several times in the last few years it would be under £1,000 packed (SE Eng). Your options might depend on if you have access to both properties consecutively or not. You can get away with man with a van type service willing to do multiple trips if you don’t need one property fully cleared before being able to get into new property.
