Why consult the C79 energy rating given to the property by an accredited energy assessor who actually visited the property to carry out the energy assessment when you can ask Mumsnet posters to proffer their opinions instead?

As the energy rating is C I'd say not bad. It would probably have some internal insulation on the walls, and possibly very thick stone. I live in a D rated bungalow, 2 bed and doesn't cost me much in energy.

snotathing · 22/03/2025 23:04

I can't imagine a less romantic place for dining than the crypt!

The bed in the altar alcove made me laugh for some reason. It would be an interesting place to live for sure.

I don't think there would be enough natural light for me.

No photos on the listing? Or am I being dense?

Cocolapew · 22/03/2025 23:15

Next to the map icon, top right.

Vulgar, to wit. You have it all!

Monty27 · 22/03/2025 23:26

Underfloor heating?

Cocolapew · 22/03/2025 23:31

Belfast isn't known for its balmy weather unfortunately 😄

It looks like they've thought about the energy efficiency. Very unusual property though. Looks like a Bond villain could live there. Or a gritty TV detective.

Geneticsbunny · 23/03/2025 08:56

Wow. What a beautiful place. Unless there is underfloor heating, it will be pricey to heat and will feel cold because of the high ceilings.

BloodyHellBob · 23/03/2025 09:05

I saw this yesterday on Property Pal and thought it looked amazing but I don’t think I’d actually want to live in it. The crypt could be brilliant as a cinema room, I’d never need a dining room that size! I liked the idea of owning the bell tower and the amazing views you’d have. I actually think it would probably be ok to heat.

WonderingWanda · 23/03/2025 09:07

The lack of low windows would make it feel a bit claustrophobic for me.

SnoozingFox · 23/03/2025 09:10

Love it! Map icon wrong though, unless it is directly opposite belfast city hall, which I doubt. It's a lovely antidote to all modern properties which seem to be identikit. I think also that being a modern conversion they will have had to meet minimum standard for insulation, although the curtains over the front door does make me think of my granny's stone cottage which was very draughty.

redcord · 23/03/2025 09:14

I think you'd have more problems with that pheasant pooping on your cornflakes.

Flipperti · 23/03/2025 09:15

Looks gorgeous but granite buildings are notoriously difficult to keep warm, plus there are very high ceilings (beautiful). They have to be kept at an even temperature all the time (or something like that). I'd ask to see the report on the energy and ask to see the bills for the past few years.

sashh · 23/03/2025 09:34

I wouldn't care, I would move in and freeze.

Seriously high ceilings mean you need to heat a lot of empty space.

CantThinkOfAUsername57 · 26/06/2025 20:30

I have a friend who lived in one of the other apartments in this chapel! It was absolutely stunning but had a slightly creepy feel to it and was always very cool + draughty. Beautiful but not somewhere I’d want to live (or sleep the night to be honest..!)
