Wanstead (Nightingale estate)

We are keen to move to Wanstead and after much searching and understanding the market it seems the Nightingale Estate is where our budget of around 1.1million gets us the most.

I would be really interested in hearing from people who live round the area - how do you find it - friendly? Safe? Sense of community? I guess my concern is that it is both a walk from Wanstead High St (depending on where you are) and also a walk from South Woodford so a bit 'in-betweeny' and suburban. That said, it feels safe and a good base for us as our eldest who we want to enable to feel more independent when he starts are Wanstead High.

We've also like Aldersbrook but think on balance Wanstead to South Woodford feels most practical for us.

We're moving from Walthamstow, mainly cos it feels less safe for teenage boys but need to be in London for our jobs so want to be somewhere that feels safer and a bit calmer but also has a bit of cafe culture and the community we've loved living in Walthamstow.

Wanstead is great. It’s a yes to all 3 questions. Check out the Wanstead Community Hub Facebook page, which is very active and will give you a good idea.

As well as the Nightingale estate, you might want to consider the Counties estate. Houses are a bit bigger, so possibly a bit out of your budget, but worth a try, and they’re a bit closer to Wanstead high street. Some areas of the Nightingale estate will come under South Woodford.
