Sofa beds. What's the wisdom on choosing one that's actually comfy?

I'm sure there's some accepted wisdom on what type of sofa bed to avoid and what the best type is. Do you need one that's got a proper sprung mattress, or are those foam ones (e.g. Heals) the best. The people sleeping on it would be my parents, in their 70's, both with arthritis in the hips (it's only a few times a year!) 😬

The most comfortable sofa bed I ever slept on had an integrated pump which inflated a really high-quality air mattress which was "sprung" with air pockets. I think my hosts said it was from John Lewis.

Ive for a Cocoon one and it’s amazing! Highly recommend. I’ve been sleeping on it every night for over a year (currently renovating very slowly…) and it’s lovely and comfy.

The ikea day bed if it works in your room is comfy

I'm yet to find one! IMO, they are either a reasonable bed OR a reasonable sofa- never both!
Would a fold out wall bed suit? Is this is a spare room? Do you need the sofa component or is this for your main, living area?

I have a Swyft one with a really good mattress topper. I have been sleeping on it for weeks during house renovations and it is still fine (but I do like firm mattresses).
