Hi we plan to make the move up country to either Derbyshire or Nottinghamshire.and would like some advice on where to move to and what the places are like.
We are not fixed into where we should go so we are open minded, we do have some set things we need.

  1. 4 bedroom new build
  2. garage
  3. near to shops within walking distance
  4. possibly not too far fron outlet villages
  5. plenty of places to walk to.
  6. budget £335000 max
  7. open to areas have been told of some good and some bad but willing to listen to all.
hope you can help.

This is Mumsnet, so everyone will be telling you to move to West Bridgeford.😂

Belper or Matlock might suit in Derbyshire. Good sized towns with a range of housing supply, shops, schools. Nice countryside around and easy access to Derby, Nottingham and M1. The only outlet village in the area is MacArthur Glen by the M1 but that’s not up to much.

@MurdoMunro don't forget the peak shopping village near Bakewell

MurdoMunro · 03/03/2025 23:06

Yeah. I suppose. But it’s hardly anything and surely not enough of a place to influence your house purchase around tho is it?

335 won’t get you much in Bakewell but if it’s important to be near a shopping village then Matlock/Darley Dale would do it

Given you want 4 beds I'm guessing there are kids involved. In wh8ch case you might want to check school, catchment. Lots of the decent schools are full so school places might influence your decision...

Ashbourne or near by such as Hulland Ward. Not sure about costs but nice areas with good schools.

Breaston. Borrowash. Between Nottingham and Derby

Nice places, but way too expensive for the budget available.

I'd recommend Beeston in Nottingham :)
