Currently getting our garage converted and have had the kitchen wall knocked through.

The room is dual aspect, the south facing side of the room is the new garage conversion with a large window and the north facing side of the room is the kitchen with only a window in the back door for light.

We are getting light grey worktops (howdens portland limestone), a black sink, glass splashback and have white units.

In the rest of the house I have egyption cotton paint in some rooms and Lick white 03 in others. We had Lick White 03 in the kitchen when it didnt have much light but now it looks far too yellow.

I tried some samples of a few dulux and lick paints and they all look awful (except for lick taupe 02).

I prefer more of a neutral wall and to add colour through accessories but wouldn’t be opposed to a colour for the walls if it worked well.

Note- the flooring looks more grey in the pictures but it’s quite a sandy colour in real life.

I'm not going to be much help here as I don't have any colour ideas, but I think any of those will just make the whole thing look very wishy washy. Sorry I can't come up with anything tho!

I agree with pp, it's all going to look very meh. Inject some colour in there.

LizzieSiddal · 01/02/2025 21:37

I too think you should ingest some colour otherwise it’s all too “white”. A blue would be nice.

Interiorsos · 01/02/2025 21:39

Thanks all, I definitely want to avoid ‘meh’! We went sofa shopping today and found some colourful sofas. If we got a colourful sofa could we get away with a neutral wall?

That's a lot of grey.

I would go with warm neutrals instead.

I thing grey has really had its day.

CatStoleMyChocolate · 01/02/2025 21:42

I would go something pinkish. It will warm up the north-facing end and still look good in the south-facing end. It also goes well with grey. We have pink in our living room (Pink Ground by Farrow & Ball) and it’s really versatile. Would also go well with that dark blue sofa you’ve just posted….

Sage green for the kitchen. Tranquil Dawn by Dulux.

I've never been a fan of grey, but can highly recommend Kitchen Green or Mushroom by Little Greene. I think either would work here.

Thank you, the flooring definitely looks more grey in the photo than it does in real life! This is the colour of it.

Will have a look at pink colours!

Whatever colour sofa you go for choose a light variation of that tone for the wall paint. So if you go for the blue lighten it up a shade or 2 and have blue paint.
