Please help me choose some bathroom tiles!

We started the bathroom renovation but haven't been able to choose tiles. Partner wants interesting, so not necessarily neutral shades, although will be happy with some neutral with an accent wall of colour, maybe.
I just don't know, I don't feel like I have much flair for style, so I'm hoping for some inspiration here. There will be a bath on this wall, and a walk in shower on the opposite side of the bathroom

I’d keep your tiles neutral and make your paint colour the accent as that’s easier to change if it looks awful or starts to date.

sparkysalmon · 29/01/2025 15:46

Thanks. The plan is a fully tiled bathroom as it was previously. The only paint will be the ceiling.

I prefer those ones!

Definitely neutral with a feature panel or wall. It is a smallish bathroom and too much pattern would be overpowering IMO
I have a very small bathroom which is fully tiled in fairly large white tiles with a panel of decorative coloured glass tiles floor to ceiling

MiddleAgedDread · 29/01/2025 16:02

According to my plumber, large tiles make a small space look bigger! I only like white in bathrooms.

Tupster · 29/01/2025 16:06

I think you need to have some sense of what you want before anyone can help. If all you know is you want some tiles, people can only really offer what their own favourite colours are!

Probablynottheansweryouwant · 29/01/2025 16:10

In my small bathroom I went large white tiles and then a patterned floor as I thought this would be easier to change/doesn't over power the room.
Just had ensuite redone and have gone for wall paneling I'm really pleased with the overall look.

I have big beige and big charcoal tiles on the horizontal, the same make and style.
I ran the charcoal from the floor all the way up the facing wall. The beige tiles are on all the other walls. How about something like that?

I’m having a new bathroom in March. I’m going for white tiles on 3 walls, the remaining wall will be painted, I’m trying out tester paints at the moment.

This. Also, what aspect does the room have, and how much natural light will it get? Are you looking for a relaxing vibe (will the bath be for children or somewhere yiu soak?) or is it a family bathroom where you don’t want to encourage lingering?

Having our bathroom done this week. The tiles around the bath are off white with flecks of grey and beige. Side walls are currently ivory. Obviously taken at night, so daytime effect will be different. Might help you get a feel for a lighter coloured bathroom.

Although, we have a velux window it's quite bright in the room and I have think we should have gone for something warmer (not necessarily a dark colour though

We went for big neutral tiles then bright towels and accessories to liven it up.

I've just done mine ensuite with 600x300 pink tiles, there were a number of different patterns in each box.

Big tiles - the less grout the better

MH0084 · 20/05/2025 14:53

go for large terrazzo tiles on the floor and white tiles on the wall. Creates some interest without overpowering the room. Make sure you have high R-rate tiles for the floor

Am805463 · 20/05/2025 14:56

Only a small shower room but we have large terrazzo tiles in the shower and white behind the sink & toilet.

We had ours done fairly recently too and I love the large, fully tiled look. More hygienic! It's light grey, but trying to add more interest with plants and accessories.

I think large tiles work quite well in a small space too. This is the ensuite

I'm going to go against the grain here and recommend dark tiles.

I think a white or very light-coloured bathroom can easily look cold and clinical. Not always, but sometimes. There are so many shiny surfaces in a bathroom, and there are also plenty of white surfaces (bath, washbasin, shower tray, loo, probably ceiling) already. All of this bounces the light around.

The other thing to bear in mind is grouting colour. White grouting in a shower or on a floor is never going to stay white. So I would go for a mid to dark shade of grouting. For this, I would want a mid to dark shade of tile. (Although I know quite a few people pick white tiles with dark grey grout, so that's definitely an option, although it's not my thing personally.)

We recently got these green wall tiles for our bathroom and I love them:

(they are available in other colours and from quite a few places, but this was one of the cheaper ones).

We're having beige stone-effect tiles on the floor:
