How bad is the Didcot rubbish smell?

We are looking to move to Didcot. Lovely newbuilds on edge of Ladygrove. But.. just been reading about awful rubbish smell from Sutton Courtney. Is this a real and ongoing problem that should stop us from buying? The Cala Homes development is quite close.

I lived in Didcot for 5 years and never noticed a smell. We weren’t in that part you’re talking about but went to Ladygrove for various things and I was even there last week at the bounce park and I’ve never noticed a smell (I used to cycle and run past the rubbish dump at Sutton Courtenay too and it never smelt much). That said, if people are saying it is a problem then they may know what they are talking about and maybe things have changed. There are thousands of new houses to choose from in Didcot so maybe look at Great Western or the development near Tesco or on the West Hagbourne road

Um, I have NEVER even heard of a smell! Grin I don't live there but I know the area well. Never heard anything about this.

😂 ok glad you agree! I haven’t literally never heard anyone mention this and still have family living in the town

I live some miles south of Didcot and this is the first I've ever heard that "the Didcot smell" was a thing.

We've never noticed any smell from the tip when visiting Sutton Courtney even in high summer.

Family have lived outside Didcot for about 30 years, and I've never heard of or smelt a rubbish smell. Sutton Courtney itself is a hugely desirable and expensive village - I'm pretty sure if there was an issue, there would be some very loud complaints!

I've never heard of the Didcot smell! We used to have the Whitley Whiff in Reading many years ago though so I can imagine it might be a thing Grin
