We have an open plan living area that we are thinking about separating into two rooms again. If we do we have considered making the new dividing wall into a media wall in the living room. Most I’ve seen have an electric fire under a tv and this would work well for us but it would mean removing the existing gas fire on another external wall together with the stone surround. This would free up space for more seating but would it be a bad idea to remove a perfectly good gas fire? The chimney is external so it would leave a flat wall on the inside.
