Help me work out how to get my radiators working

I've just moved house into a new build property. I has underfloor heating downstairs in the kitchen/diner and living room and upstairs in the bedrooms it has radiators.

The underfloor heating works, the hot water is hot, but the radiators upstairs won't come on. I've switched the valve on the radiators to max, I've bled them, I've pressurised the boiler... there must be something (probably very obvious) that I'm missing!

We have a worchester bosch boiler that's like a box- no control panel or anything on it and the top lifts off to service it and a hot water tank. There are 2 smaller water cylinders and 2 switches on the wall (both on) for the water heater and one unlabelled one. There's a sangamo choice PR1n little box on the wall just inside the kitchen which I presume is the control for the radiators, but when you switch it on or put it to auto, the radiators don't come on.

Any ideas or thoughts?

Are there some workers in nearby unfinished properties? If so, I'd go over and ask any of them if there's a plumber about who could have a look for you. It should have all been working when it was tested after installation.

Can you post a photo of the boiler. Is there a thermostat anywhere in the house, are the batteries desd if there is one.

Nourishinghandcream · 21/11/2024 18:44

Have you got more than one heating zone and therefore a separate thermostat for each floor.

TheLurpackYears · 21/11/2024 18:47

When you say valves, do you men the trvs or the ones on the other side? Do both sides if you haven't.

I don't think it's cold enough for pipes to freeze.

You should have been given a maintenance manual. If so, might be worth googling the model and see if you can find how to operate. If not, I'd contact the builder for instructions.

Check the motorized valve or zone valve sound like it is not switching over , it has a manual override

Pitstop1986 · 21/11/2024 20:48

Sorted now!

And it was something silly. There was another small thermostat upstairs to control the temperature as well as the downstairs main one. Although it had batteries and had the temperature displayed on the screen, I needed to press the power button to get the radiators to start.

I've looked at that thermostat dozens of times, but because it had a temperature displayed, I thought that it was on and working!

Thanks all for your help

I have the same layout.

Underfloor downstairs, radiators upstairs.

The downstairs underfloor has small timeswitches / thermostats for each zone / room on the wall in that room. Near to the boiler is a timeswitch which manages the hot water and upstairs heating. The upstairs radiators have individual thermostat valves.

I also struggled to get the upstairs working until I twigged that the random thermostat stuck in the hall upstairs also had to be set properly to get the radiators to come on. I ignored it for days thinking it had something to do with the underfloor electric pad heating in the bathroom.

Check around to see if you also have a random thermostat somewhere upstairs.

Crossed post 🤣😂

Thanks @Inthechillyhoursandminutes it was exactly what you said. I just had to spend a couple of days driving myself mad before I worked it out!.
