What wood do I need to buy for my woodburning stove?

New accommodation has a woodburning stove. What sort of wood do I need to purchase? Where do people usually purchase it from? All advice welcome

@TheSandgroper Hard woods (such as oak) will burn slower than soft woods (pine). Make sure it is seasoned and store it somewhere dry.

Check when the chimney was last swept, if not sure wise to get it done before using it.

Enjoy, they are lovely in a home, especially coming up to winter time.

I recommend checking moisture content with a meter. For reliable wood fuel I use this and it's always properly seasoned. That makes a big difference for clean burning and heat output.

I buy ours direct from the bloke who cut down the trees, who has contracts with several large NT estates. He delivers 4 cubic metres (a lorry-load weighing several tonnes) of green hardwood logs every other year, and we keep a three year rolling log pile so it's always seasoned and dried. The sweep comes early autumn and we have never had any significant accumulation of soot or tar.

I second what everyone else says and get the chimney swept and the stove serviced, then get your self a moisture meter and make sure that any wood you use is less than 20% moisture and definitely nothing that could have been treated, even if it doesn't look treated.

As to the PPM and smell, we have an automatic air purifier that kicks in if the air quality drops. Never starts up when the stove is on. Goes crazy when i use the air fryer 2 rooms away, and my next door neighbor was flabbergasted to learn we have a stove and use it daily in winter, shed honestly never smelt it on seen any smoke
