Any plasterers around for an opinion please?

We’ve had plastering done - skimming artexed ceilings and removal of dado rail so making good after that.
First time for us to have anything as significant as this done so not sure as to whether these results are poor or whether it would be expected that the decorator would use filler to fill in any dinks or spread marks.
Theres small holes between the ceiling and the wall, he’s completely forgotten to fill in one area and where he’s used a compound to fill in where the dado rail was it’s very scored. Is this normal plastering / remediation and decorator would prep to a better finish or is this poor.
He completely plastered another room, walls and ceiling but was running out of time on the hall stairs and landing and seemed to rush the job (his own fault he lost a day to an family member in hospital 😒 and then promised to work the weekend and again didn’t come. Opinions please.

That's pretty poor. Have you paid him already?

Gizzardthing · 06/10/2024 14:46

Yes paid up and he’s gone a few days now. Only really noticing the flaws now we’re trying to prep a bit for the decorator to come

Surely picture 2 is woodwork where the door was formerly in place, and the holes where the hinge came out- you would not expect him/ her to plaster that?

We usually sand plaster also before doing a sealing layer - pva or weak vinyl emulsion then paint.
It does not look completely dry yet though for you to sand

Edited

That’s small section where dado rail was and he’s completely missed filling in.

Why not try contacting him and politely ask him to come back and touch up a few things? A good plasterer will usually recognize that it is easy to miss a few spots. It won't take him long and you will be glad he came back. Do not be confrontational.

Next time, request in advance that they come back a second time for spot checking and let them know you will withhold 5% of payment until they do.
