Where to buy a rug

I've recently moved into my new property (ftb so I feel like I'm spending money left right and centre at the moment!). I'm looking for a rug for my living room. A nice one, but a 'make-do' until I figure out what I want to do with the room/flooring so I'm ideally wanting something that's cheap but doesn't look cheap. I've got a deep green/blue sofa and the floorboards are a mid-walnut colour. Walls are a flat white.

Any advice on where to buy a rug and what colour would be gratefully received! I've seen some rugs online at TK Maxx, are they any good for rugs?

Dunelm would be worth a look, they are reasonably priced and decent quality as well.

I bought a couple of really nice rugs from TK Maxx (Homesense). They’re cheaper in store than online. Hit and miss in terms of styles depending on what’s in stock so it’s a bit of luck of the draw but I’m really happy with mine, really excellent quality for the price!

ikea do some decent ones and prices on average under £100

IKEA or Dunelm.

If you have an auction house local to you you may find some quality bargain rugs there.

Yes. I could write a thesis on rugs I had to get so many.

I wouldn't get one online as I think you need to touch them. Some feel awful.

There are some great rug sellers on eBay.

I'd agree with Ikea, and that you have to see them to "know" if they are right. Kukoon do cheap rugs online but the quality is not always as hoped - i.e. they look better in the pictures. My personal view on rugs is that they get knackered by my children, so I tend to go for cheap and replace, hope this helps x

If you want a specific size or colour look into carpet whipping. That's where you buy a piece of regular carpet and have it whipped around the edges to make a rug. This expands your choice of colour, size and pattern.

When we had ours done whipping was charged per foot.
