We are soon starting a groundfloor extension, which will include a kitchen/diner and shower room. We are considering Karndean flooring, does anyone have any advice on this product? Thanks in advance for any info.

crikey have been quoted Amtico starting from £120 psqm fitting

But well if it lasts and lasts...

The Insurance company will probably give you a voucher worth up to a certain amount plus a list of approved suppliers/fitters. You can probably choose what you want (ie ceramic or Amtico) up to the amount stated. Am a bit at the £120 per sq m - is that for the tiles as well or just the fitting?

When I had mine done I used a local one-man company who charged the £40-50 per sq m the tiles cost but didn't charge anything on top for fitting - I guess the profit margin he made on the tiles covered that...

that price includes putting in a 6mm ply floor on top of our new subfloor and then the amtico
Karndean is £55-90 psqm
It may win

I really didn't rate Karndean as good as Amtico - have it in our bathroom at the mo - discolours if bleach drips on it, scratches where the laundry basket gets pulled out... I have a vague recollection that you are supposed to strip off and recoat it with some sort of sealant every year but needless to say...

We've had this all over the flat and has had v good wear so far (3 years). It's soft, warm and quiet (quiet was v important for us) and is easy to clean. We don't have it in the bathroom or kitchen. Cost about £4000 for 80 sqm (including levelling the floors everywhere with some kind of cement).

Make sure the fitter use a marine ply, so that there are no problems with water.

£120 psm seems steep for the Amtico - what finish is it that you're looking at?

I just asked for starting price average cost... I want something slate ish simple nothing fancy at all... Very large reputable firm. Infact only one round for miles that fits amtico
