Does anyone know the Stafford area at all?

We're in the process of selling our house and want to move to a completely new area. We've found a couple of places we really like but they are in Shropshire - the problem is that my eldest goes to college in Stafford and will have a bit of a journey every day if we move to Shropshire. So, the sensible thing to do would be to move to the Stafford area. Trouble is, I don't know Stafford at all and couldn't tell which are the preferable areas within Stafford or where the good schools are. Can anyone help?!

Hi Just seen this thread. I was brought up in a village on the Cheshire/Staffordshire/Shropshire border and went to senior school in Newcastle. I know the area a little around there. Some of my school friends lived in Eccleshall, Stone, Loggerheads. Don't know if that helps. Good luck

Villages of Haughton and Gnosall are nice.
In Stafford itelf you'd probably want Baswich or Weeping Cross or Milford. These are good areas. Also on good bus route into town for college.

Forgot to add Brocton to the list as well.

Yes Norton in Hales and Market Drayton are nice. I wasn't sure if they were too far from Stafford? 30mins drive probably.

I think Brewood is nice too. I live in Shropshire, right on Shrops/Staff border.

CatIsSleepy · 08/04/2008 15:04

happynappies how do you know Brewood? I used to live there (my mum still does)

I can vouch for the fact that Brewood is a nice village! about 12 miles from Stafford and 7 from Wolverhampton. Unfortunately neither Wolverhampton or Stafford are particularly exciting... I went to primary school in brewood and secondary school in Stafford, both good schools.

Hi CatIsSleepy, I live just down A5 from Brewood, and know that it has always been a lovely place. Friend used to go to school there, and know another friend whose parents live there...

CatIsSleepy · 08/04/2008 16:43

hmm nappies I wonder if your friend's parents know my mum

I live the other side in Great Hay wood, DD has just started school and seems to be OK so far. Love living in this village, we can walk into shugborough, go and feed the ducks on the canal and get to the chase easily. Night life not really happening but I don't get out much anyway!
