Really want to splurge on some external french doors made from steel, but getting cold feet as I'm seeing some reviews of issues with condensation and draughts. Anyone with steel windows and doors care to enlighten me? We're going with aluminium otherwise.

Hi @mogernator we've had steel doors in our full house renovation installed in stages as we progress with our reno, so the oldest are 1year old, and the newest just a few months. I haven't had any condensation at all, even in the bathrooms. No draughts either and I spend half my day sitting next to our 3 sets of french steel doors even all through winter. We ordered with www.stenze.com whom our builder recommended, and they were really, really reasonable, however I had quotes from Crittall, Clements, IQ glass and the prices were outrageous! I have lived with very old steel windows in a past house that performed very differently (draughty) but I think steel doors have improved a lot since those windows were installed. Essentially, I'm thrilled with them, they are GORGEOUS - one of my friends replaced her aluminium doors with french doors from them also and got 2 offers on their house within the first week of listing!! Last year they didn't get any offers and swapping the doors was the only thing she changed - good luck!

Hi there @mogernator did you end up with buying the steel windows. We're also looking at Stenze but would love to hear first hand someone who has bought them.

No we went with aluminium in the end. Partly as worried about droughts but also cost. Stenze sounds good. Maybe in years to come I may swap! But because we have so much to do we couldn't justify the extra cost. But agree they are gorgeous.
