Melton Mowbray review

Hello. We live in Northamptonshire and looking to move to a bigger house- 5 bed. We have seen some potential lovely new houses and one is in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. I have visited and it looks lovely and gas that market town feel. I have done some research online and it's kind of high on the list in Leicestershire shoplifting but so are some other towns including London.
Can anyone advice on what the place is really like to live. Any other relevant information will be useful.

Thank you.

It's a bit run down. There are a few nice places to eat/drink but generally the town is run down and scruffy.

It's by no means terrible though!

We live on the Melton-Lincolnshire border (rural village) and use Melton for shopping.

Is the house in Melton itself or one of the surrounding areas?

Thank you for your reply. The house is in Melton. A new development /estate about 5 minutes from.twinlakes.

I like Melton and also go there to shop, the market is great, buildings and history are authentic and at times very beautiful. You can get most things easily and I really like that it is pedestrianised largely. Recently a lot of shops have closed although some have opened. There is poverty and some kids at a loose end but generally people treat each other well. If I was going to live in Melton I would want better pedestrian access to town and the station etc and probably buy an older house closer to town. I know the estate you mean and it's hardly easily walkable - I can't remember what the pavement routes are as I drive through. Realise there are supply/ cost issues but that is my feedback. We did live in walking distance to the market place for a short time and I really liked being able to pop to Anne of Cleves/ More Coffee and the Regal Cinema etc. I would be happy to live on the other side of the train station from there more and you get the pool and park that side.
