Hi how would we pay a large amount from our bank to pay for a property when it exceed the daily limit and branches are closed on Saturday.

Is the only option to wait until they're open on Sat? it would exceed daily limit for online banking.

its barclays

Ours is open on a Saturday. Can you travel?

Nitgel · 19/04/2024 19:54

Yes but I thought only self service was open and it says not able to do large transactions this way.

Ours is self service, just checked. That's a recent change.

Milton Keynes seems to have a massive branch which suggests it has counter service until 12.30 on a Saturday

Hmmm. Maybe for businesses only.

Time to change your bank after this, I think!

Thanks. I will have to wait until Monday 😐

I walked into a branch and I was there about 1.5 hours but there were some minor complications. I was told by the branch (Lloyds) that you generally need your chip and pin card as well to authorise the transaction. We'd never had one so it had to go through a long roundabout process.

Chaps payments don’t go through on a Saturday anyway , it would be held until Monday to be processed . Do make sure you go early in the day Monday though as Chaps payments go through same day but that can be up to 6pm for crediting the receiving account . The earlier in the day you get yours in , the earlier it will be processed .

I paid a few weeks ago £170k. I was able to pay £100k via phone. There were lots of checks. The rest had to pay in £25k limits daily.

only other option was to go into the branch to pay the lot via loads of checks.

I am sure I could do a bigger transfer via phone. But that cost and there was a serious of checks that meant it would take a few days. .

There is a chance it will go into extra fraud checks with the bank (yours or the solicitors). This happened to me and it took 2 days to get sorted (I went into a branch to get the funds transferred so that doesn’t stop them checking in the fraud department).

Are you aware of what happens if you breach on Monday? I assume you have already exchanged.

BunnyMum2000 · 19/04/2024 21:10

I did a CHAPS recently (about £80k) and was able to just do it online.

I have no other option

Presumably you're not completing on Monday though? If you're transferring to your solicitor on Monday then they must be sending to the seller another day?

Nitgel · 19/04/2024 21:26

Completing tuesday

We only exchanged today otherwise would have sent the funds earlier today

Go with all your ID, chip and pin card and letter from solicitor. It'll be fine OP.

Good luck with the move!
