Shower room opinion sought :-)

Hi, with the intention of good vinyl laminate click flooring for continuity reasons and there is no bath, just shower, from a potential splashing perspective:

  • walk in shower would be fine (would be big one)
  • you're nuts. Stick to enclosure

I'm hoping the feedback isn't going to be "you're nuts to consider that flooring for a shower room full stop". I also don't want the faff/expense of a wet room or to tile floor regardless

FWIW my downstairs shower is barely used. I have my own upstairs and it's just me in the house, conscious I should probably consider any future buyer more than anything. Cheap vinyl sticky-back tiles have so far stood up fine in the existing shower room - enclosed shower - for at least 15 years, it was very much on a budget at the time

Thank you thank you!!!

I'm mean, there are walk in showers and walk in showers.
Many will be fine. Some will not. What sort of walk in shower are you thinking?

Magicmagician · 09/04/2024 07:38

Will you have a shower tray and screen or are you thinking more wet room like where the water can go anywhere? I think first would be fine but second not.

edited to add about screen

D'oh sorry that would have helped!

ah I see - we’ve got one like that. I don’t know about the floor you’re thinking of but if it helps, the floor and wall at the open end does get pretty wet. I think you would need to be careful with drying the floor/squeegeeing (is that a word!?) down the tiles next to the opening to avoid water sitting on the floor, and probably best to have a extractor fan.

We've got a big walk in shower and quite often the floor gets wet. Water bounces off shoulders etc. I wish we had got an enclosure.

We have a shower similar to that plus a laminate floor for bathroom. With a big shower mat outside it’s absolutely fine. I just pick up the mat after and hang it over the end of the shower enclosure to dry afterwards.

If it's just occasional use and you’re careful with splashes, a walk-in with good drainage and vinyl click flooring can work—just make sure seams are tight and edges sealed. It’s not crazy, especially if resale is your main concern.
