Life on Epsom?

We're thinking of moving to Epsom. Seen a great family house on a lovely road but bit nervous about moving from trendy south east london to surburbia.

As mum to be, just want to reassure myself that there is a community feel in Epsom for youngish 30 something mums. What is there to - do locally?

Any details that reassure would be gratefully appreciated - does Epsom have a trendy side?

the only thing I know about Epsom (had friends that used to live there and visited them) is that the one way ring road is a complete nightmare.........lots of wealthy people in the wealthy part.

Hi, I've been living in Epsom for nearly 4 years and my DS is almost 2 months. I was working up to Christmas and didn't know anyone locally with kids but that's changed thanks to NCT and local NHS antenatal group where I've met some other new Mums.

Expect that it's not as trendy here as where you are at the moment but there's lots of 30 something Mums locally, including me!, quite a few playgroups and babies/toddlers activities and the usual coffee places like Starbucks which are usually busy with Mums and LOs during the week! I used to live in South Croydon and also in Sutton and definitely prefer it here - nicer place for LOs.

CarGirl is right about the bloody one way system though - it's a pain! And avoid driving up to Epsom Downs when the racing, especially The Derby are on - total traffic nightmare!

I think Epsom is lovely and I hope to move tere in a few years. dp is about to open a business there so we have been spend rather a lot of time there and I will second Surreygirls opinion that it is MUCH nicer than Sutton or Croydon.

I lived in Ashtead ( on outskirts of Epsom) for 4 years and really liked it. Nice town centre although one way system is a total nightmare. Nice cafes and stuff. Lovely place called Olivers too for supper.
Met loads of mums there - but as DS2 has special needs it tended to be through his peers so a very specific group IYSWIM.

Nice place

LOL about the agreement about the one way 3 lane ring road thing - I guess make sure you take it into consideration when buying house about how far you'll have to drive around it if you commute etc.

Thanks everyone - really appreciate the feedback. And good to know Surreygirl that there's lots for youngish mums to do and bit of a mums community.

Will keep you posted if we do get there.

And will bear in mind the ring road!
