Mortgage only for provider's current account holders

Best deal on mortgage comparison website is product direct from lender but only available for the lender's current account holders. Are you able to apply for the mortgage product by opening a current account? Has anyone done this - is it quick/doable or a bad idea/impractical? Trying to get the best deal but not sure if this is open to me. Any thoughts welcome.

Which lender is it and do they specify an account type ? You could open a savings account online and make a deposit within 10 minutes...
Oh wait, you said current account. Do you have a local branch you could go into and simply ask ?

It’s Lloyds. I’ve now seen that it takes 7 days to open. So I couldn’t apply for a mortgage before then, which is annoying.

I've always found lloyds to be very quick to apply/approve. Apply online and should get your account details pretty much straight away.
