Where to live North West

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had advice on places to look to buy a house. I work in South Manchester, and my partner works in Bolton. Currently renting in Manchester but we wouldn't be able to afford to buy here.

Due to monthly payments and interest rates, we would be looking at max £250k for a 3 bedroom. Hoping to stay West of Manchester due to family being in Liverpool.

Finding it really hard to find somewhere in budget that won't have a horrendous commute for one/both of us!

Thanks in advance

Have you looked at Chorley or Leyland? There’s some little villages around these areas.

We did actually consider Buckshaw near Chorley, but the commute would be 40 miles for me so with traffic it could end up taking up to 2 hours each way

What about St Helen’s or somewhere in that area near the A580?

St Helens is a good shout, I was also considering Warrington/Newton Le Willows area

Would you get much for your money in Warrington these days?

My sister used to live there and the commute to the city centre could be 90 minutes some days 🙈

Liverpool!

I have family who live in Worsley, which is right in the middle of Manchester and Bolton. I've visited a few times but it seems like a nice area (about 5-10 mins' walk from the station) and I'm pretty sure they bought their 3 bed semi for around your budget.

Liverpool!

Liverpool to South Manchester would be a horrible commute!

I live very near here. Rush hour driving is terrible, M6 / M62 are really busy to S Mcr and there is no good way by road to Bolton, the Atherleigh way is terrible, Westhoughton and then onto Bolton would be at least 45mins if there are no accidents on M61.

We are lucky to have lots of good motorways and dual carriageways but they are so busy.

However you could get a 3 bed in your price range in Golborne/ Leigh/ Earlestown/ Ashton in Makerfield/ Bryn/ Haydock.

AndThatWasNY · 05/03/2024 00:06

Gorse Hill? Occasionally a 3 bed comes up at that price

PaperRhino · 05/03/2024 00:09

You would get something nice in Leigh, Billinge or Newton le Willows and all handy to commute to both Manchester and Liverpool

winewolfhowls · 05/03/2024 21:31

St Helens is very rough (sorry).

NoHeavenNoMore · 05/03/2024 21:34

I'd recommend Atherton. You could easily commute on the guided busway.
