currently living in devon but the cost of living i.e housing is so expensive down here that we will never be able to afford to buy specially as the wages are really poor down here too. Anyone recommend places/areas in soctland? Dh i got married in gretna and loved what we saw there and how friendly a town it was.Whats the cost of living like/house prices etc, wages.....

what area of work are you and dh in?

Scotland's a big country and the cost of living/wages/housing varies enormously as does work availability. You'll need to narrow down your requirements re making a living first.

it is a real myth that scotland is cheaper than england as far as properties. why? because in general, wages are not as high and housing is anything but cheap.

as suedonim said, you'll need to focus on where you can get a job and go from there.

it's not a good time for first-time buyers up here at all, particularly if you are in need of a home large enough to suit a family.

I have family in Ayrshire which is in the southwest, quite close to Glasgow. Look up www.rightmove.co.uk and look up houses for sale in Kilmarnock, Irvine, Ayr for starters.
