Don't know if any of you already know but my (rented) house has been under compulsary purchase order by the council for quite a while now. Most of the surrounding streets are now empty and boarded up and there's only about 10 houses still occupied in my street (including us) out of about 90 I think.
Well I've been waiting and waiting for our landlord to sell the house, and then finally yesterday morning he knocked with a notice giving us 2 months notice to move out. He said we should now go to the council who will rehouse us and could we let him know when we are moving out. The notice gives us until 12th May. Well this was me yesterday (literally) I didn't stop bouncing up and down all day. The girls thought I'd gone mad.
So today I go to our local One Stop Shop and tell them landlord has sold the house and given us 2 months notice. Also told them I'd been on the housing list for a while but was at the bottom of the list. And that I'd been advised that when the house was sold I would be put near the top and given decant status. Well the woman told me that the notice wasn't proof he had sold the house and we wouldn't get anywhere before May 12th. And then after May 12th we'd go on the homeless list and have to go into a hostel before getting house. I nearly hit the roof like I'm going to take my kids and stay in a bloody hostel when there the ones who are taking my home out from underneath me. She told me someone from the housing team would contact me.
Now on the other side of this last Friday DH and I went to see a lovely 4 bedroomed house. It was like a little cottage totally fell in love with it. The lady who owns it contacted me after seeing an ad I put on gumtree. So would love to be able to go for this, BUT it's a private let and the rent is £675 per month which actually isn't to bad as we're entitled to some housing benefit. But the woman who owns it wants one months rent as a deposit and one months rent in advance so over £1200 which I just don't have and won't be able to get before May.
She's such a nice woman she's married a soldier and he's being posted in Cyprus so she wants to let the house long term. She currently has 2 foreign girls living in it and there contract was up in July. Which is why I was originally going to go for it because it would give me enough time to get the money together. I've contacted her and she said they're willing to move out before May and she really wants to let it to a nice family rather than students as she wants it looked after.
I'm just about the whole thing. I've waited 6 long years to get here and now I'm bloody stuck, can't get the £1200 deposit together in time and I might end up in a homeless hostel if I want to get a house. I am going to the CAB on Thursday but I don't think they'll be able to help me TBH
