The Little Red Hen - I'll do it myself

So, I'm fed up of relying on DH to put up shelves, curtain rails, little DIY jobs. I want to be able to do it myself (hence The Little Red Hen reference) Can you please recommend a lightweight, not expensive cordless drill (I've never used one before) and some Youtube videos to get me started.

It would be worth thinking about where you might buy your drill. We are lucky to have an independent tool and hardware shop fairly close by. The staff know the stock really well. If I need a tool I just ask for their recommendation. It has worked well so far. It is also handy to be able to ask an experienced person about things like size of screws and plugs etc before buying.

I love my Makita cordless drill and impact driver set. Not super cheap but you get 2 batteries so one can be charging while you use the other and it is light enough to be easy to use.

You might be better off renting the tools, google for local tool hire. Drills, pressure washers, carpet cleaners, wallpaper steamers (to take off) - all can be rented.

I'd ask friend/workmates if anyone has a drill you can borrow. No point buying one if you can borrow one for a few jobs. Your local area may also have a tool lending library.
As PP, ours is Makita from B&Q.
