Where to buy new beds?

Should I go to a recognised chain like Bensons or Dreams?

Or should I go to one of those factory warehouse type places you see all over?

Or is there something I haven’t thought of?

I know it seems like a daft question but I’ve literally never had to buy beds before and I don’t want to get it wrong.

We got ours from Dusk and have been pleased with it. Also had IKEA beds in the past that were fab.

IKEA. Cheap and good.

GarlicMaybeNot · 26/11/2023 17:47

Depends on your criteria. You can't go far wrong with IKEA, really, but you won't get a world's best mattress there.

Set a budget, go to a LOT of places and try 'em out. Or ask someone whose spare bed sent you into paroxysms of joy.

Ooh I don't know, my favourite mattress ever is IKEA and I've had some quite expensive ones I've not really loved. I think first go to IKEA and lie on the beds, try out the mattresses! I'll tell you that's something shocking about buying beds, actually - that the mattress often costs more than the bed!

We've got beds from;
John Lewis
Children's Bed Centre x 2 - so good we returned for DD's bed a few years later
Local furniture shop - they were brilliant. Fantastic advice. Excellent mattress.
Local wood furniture shop - good bed, made to our spec, rubbish mattress.

I’d second IKEA. One of our best mattresses came from there - far better than more expensive ones we’ve had.

The bed doesn't matter. The matress does.

cestlavielife · 26/11/2023 22:51

What do you like or dislike about beds you have slept on before /when away ? what is your budget? Go to a department store or bensons and see what you like

GlamGiraffe · 26/11/2023 22:54

Got a great mattress from mattressman online. You can speak to them on the phone and they are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. It's the first comfortable mattress I've managed to buy. They will take it back if you don't like it too.
Ikea are also a reasonable shout.

I got a surprisingly good looking and quality bed frame from wayfair. Looks much more expensive than it was.

Doggymummar · 26/11/2023 22:54

Somewhere you can try them in person. Sussex Beds is good, but you might not have one near you

Ask locally for recommendations. I’d always use an independent, one off bed shop where possible. Locally there’s a very good one, he sells decent brands and knows his stuff. Not a dodgy pile them high sell them cheap outfit.
